Microsoft introduced Advanced Threat Protection in the Fall Creators Update to Windows 10 and made it a Windows 10 exclusive attribute in the time.

The company revealed a couple of months after it might bring Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection support to the older Windows versions Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.

Plans to establish a preview in Spring 2018 along with the final version in Summer 2018 were postponed. General accessibility was delayed although microsoft did establish a preview of Advanced Thread Protection from 2018.

Last week, Microsoft announced that the attribute is now available for organizations that operate Windows 7 or even Windows 8.1 on devices.

Windows Defender ATP events show up at Windows Defender Security Center, the central administrative location to manage endpoints.

Windows Defender ATP for Windows 7, and Windows 8.1 provides deep visibility on activities that are happening on endpoints, such as procedure, file, network, memory and registry tasks, providing security teams with rich, related insights into actions and threats happening on older versions of Windows.

Advanced Threat Protection stays Pro only feature and an Enterprise.

It demands System Center Endpoint Protection and setup of the Microsoft Monitoring Agent (MMA).

Administrators find extra installation data in the onboarding instructions.

Why is Microsoft bringing ATP to older versions of Windows?

Microsoft created some attributes Windows 10 exclusive when it launched the procedure in 2015. Features like Microsoft Edge, support for specific hardware, or safety features were not ported to mature supported versions of Windows.

In some cases, attributes were made on non-Microsoft operating systems such as Android.

Microsoft notes that it attracts ATP to old versions of Windows to”assist customers remain secure while updating to Windows 10″.

Support for Microsoft’s Windows 7 functioning system ends in January 2020. Enterprise clients may extend the service period up to three decades. Payments each year up to a max of $200 per device in the year to get Windows 7 Guru devices.

Windows 7 may be used by enterprise customers . Support for Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 operating system finishes in January 2023. Microsoft has yet to announce whether Enterprise clients could extend the service period for that operating system as well; it seems probable that the choice is going to be made available.
