Malwarebytes, fresh owner of Windows Firewall Control, released Windows Firewall Control 6.0.0.0 into the general public on February 26, 2019.

The newest version is not the very first launch under the Malwarebytes umbrella, however it is the first significant launch as indicated by the version bump to 6.0.

The new version introduces the application and the Malwarebytes branding and also makes other interface modifications.

Users may get an update notification from the edition of Windows Firewall Control that’s installed on their apparatus.

The selection of”yes” when prompted to download and upgrade to the new version results in a notification immediate soon thereafter that highlights that it is not possible to do an in-place upgrade to the new edition.

Malwarebytes asks users to manually uninstall the existing version of Windows Firewall Control manually until they run the installer again.

Users might have to download Windows Firewall Control 6.0.0.0 in the official website to achieve that.

Note: You may want to export firewall rules and consumer settings before you remove the older version to install the new.  You may lose present settings or rules otherwise.

The very first thing that existing users will notice after the upgrade is that the port changed. It conveys the Malwarebytes branding and looks like other Malwarebytes’ port goods.

Hint : Select Rules > Import Windows Firewall rules from a file and Options > Import user settings from a document to import settings and rules in the prior edition.

The new dashboard highlights the condition of the firewall, both outbound and inbound connections, along with the place. You can’t interact with those there. It’d be fine if you could click a status.

A click on profiles shows that filtering is defined to not moderate and low default; Notifications are set to disabled for outbound connections. You might want to change people to”screen notifications” instead or”learning style”.

You’ll observe that the configuration options look like those of prior versions.  The casing changed in the new version but the options appear to be exactly the same.

The changelog about the official Binisoft site highlights two additional changes.

  1. Users may change the language of the interface beneath Alternatives now directly.
  2. The user guide was converted into PDF in CHM. You can load it using the selection of the question mark or a tap onto the F1 key.

Malwarebytes made a change to profile switching near that which boosts the management of connections. If they’re allowed by default if the user changes profiles connections are blocked automatically.

Final Words

The requirement to eliminate the old installation before installing the newest version is debatable. It is going to leave some users behind; those who do not or can’t go through the process, and those who prefer to stick to prevent the newest edition.

Memory use increased somewhat from the new version but not quite as much as it did if Malwarebytes released version 3.0 of the company’s most important safety program.
