How To Make Money Blogging $20,000 Per Month

I’m John Crestani I’m an affiliate marketer and for the last four years, I’ve been running a seven-figure business but I got my start with blogging.

Now, in this video I’m gonna show you how I was consistently making $20,000 commissions every single month from my little blog and I’m gonna walk you through how you can as well. Let’s get it. So blogging is one of the simplest ways to earn an income online and get in front of people. Google is serving you up on a golden platter specific people that are googling specific search terms in their engine and you can get in front of them simply by writing a blog post.

There’s two ways to go about making money online with blogs, obviously there’s a lot of business models you could be selling consulting ecommerce affiliate marketing I teach affiliate marketing that’s what I do . But, I’m gonna focus just on getting traffic to your blog, okay? Now, the first approach is you could go after broad terms such as best baby diapers or really untargeted terms where people are looking for a selection of items and this approach I found is very hard if you’re just starting out.

There are a lot of websites out there who have a lot of authority there’s baby lists there’s Lucy’s list there’s all these mom websites that have been around for 10 years or more and they they have these big keywords really nailed down. The way to make money in the way I got started making money online with blogging was in 2012 and that was using very targeted terms, buyers words.

So before I jump on my computer and show you the examples of a website that I used and the terms I was going after, I need to first explain intent to you the concept of keyword intent. So you can think of it like a funnel, okay? And up here you have lots of people searching for terms but they’re not as interested in buying. Lots of people that are searching for you know that are searching millions of times a month or a year for these search terms and down here you have very few people who are searching for little very on targeted terms. But up here you have very little money because the people don’t really they aren’t really ready to buy whatever product or service you’re offering yet, whereas down here you have big money. Okay? Now, if you’re getting started out in internet marketing if you’re starting an internet business and you want to make money you want to make passive profits, you’re not gonna be able to compete up here again the broad area is not for you which you want to go for is the less you want to be the sniper and get the big money because there’s big money in little traffic and I’m gonna show you an example of how.

So, let’s start out with a very innocuous example. So people searching for a term such as TVs, Okay? TVs would be a very common term people who are searching to buy a TV the first thing you might Google is TVs. That same person though the people who are really getting specific might start googling a more specific term such as 72 inch TV this person has a little better idea of what they want and getting in front of that person with a selection of 72 inch TVs would be much more targeted way to go about making money as either an affiliate or an e-commerce person. How can we get more targeted than 72 inch TV? Well let’s go a little bit deeper.

Samsung 72 inch TV. Now, we’re getting a little bit more specific the person not only knows what size of TV they want but they know the actual brand name. Now, we’re starting to get somewhere and this is where we start seeing we can start seeing some money we can show people ads based on a Samsung 72 inch TV there aren’t too many Samsung 72 inch TVs so we’re hitting less people but we’re hitting people who are much more assured of what they want now how can you get more specific than this? Now, getting more specific than a keyword such as Samsung 72 inch TV might seem a little difficult at first but that’s where the money is. Son zoo said the obstacle is the way I’m gonna show you how in just a second here. Now, I’m gonna jump a little bit ahead and go straight to the big money terms I hope you don’t mind if that’s alright with you but the big money term would be this, samsung six to zero one two zero six.

You might be thinking John are you totally crazy have you completely lost your mind? Who would search for Samsung six two zero one two zero six, that just seems like a bunch of numbers. What this term is right here you may think nobody’s actually searching for this long string of numbers. But what this search term actually is, is this is a skew number this is the actual model number of this particular samsung TV. The only people that are searching for this specific term are people who have actually gone into a Best Buy or a Walmart looked at the price of the TV and are googling it online to find a cheaper price because they believe they can get a cheaper price online.

These are buyers and finding these sorts of keyword terms in your niche it takes research it takes almost insider knowledge but these are the terms that if you can snipe them you can write a blog article about them and target these specific terms then you’re in the money. You’re in the big money . Now, I’m on my computer and am i googling one of these very specific terms for a samsung 72 inch TV and if you see on my screen right here the search term I searched for is Samsung it’s even longer it’s Samsung UN seven five whatever eight to five and this was this is the actual model number of a Samsung I guess they only have 75 inch TVs but that’s what I’m using right here.

And what you’ll see is that this term actually gets 344 impressions per month. That’s a lot of people searching for such a highly specific term and again 75 inch TVs are the highest end TVs you can get. The point I’m trying to demonstrate is that there is massive volume there’s more volume than you would think in these unbelievably targeted keywords and if you figure them out you can put yourself in front of big buyers who will spend lots of money whether it’s on your own products or in a product that you’re marketing for someone else. Let me show you an example from my own actual marketing campaigns and explain to you the process I went through to make $20,000 a month consistently from just blogging online and then I’ll show you one of the websites an example of a website that’s similar to mine that I used to earn this sort of money so when So when I started out affiliate marketing I did it on I didn’t even know I was doing affiliate marketing I was actually working for a a client who was paying me a base amount of money to manage his ads but he gave me a bonus because he wanted to incentivize me to utilize the full potential of my skills and he said John I will pay $10,000 a month base or 3 percent of of the revenue we collect in my company for you to do my ads he says I want to get a lot of leads and I want to get a lot of money he says I want you to make as much money for my company as possible that’s why I’m leaving your income uncapped it was the opportunity of lifetime and the client was willing to pay for all of the ads himself coming across that was a drop of gold it was a drop of luck now the company I was I was marketing for was an investment company so what I could have done to market this company I could have tried to blog around the key word investments now this keyword is way too broad and I would never get my blog ranked for it nor would I necessarily make any money again the way this works is yes a lot of people are searching for investment or investments but there’s not that much money in it relatively speaking overall the investment market is massive there’s so much money in it even even in an untargeted term there’s just the amount of money an investment world is unbelievable but that being said that even bigger money is down here in the more targeted targeted terms so the next thing I did was I got specific what type of investments was the company I was working for selling they were selling gold investments.

So I could have ranked myself for the term gold investments. Again, slightly more targeted less people are searching for this term it’s a bit longer it’s much more specific gold investments a very specific type of investor who’s looking to invest in gold. Isn’t that targeted enough? isn’t that specific eno ugh? Well, we’re gonna go more deeper. Now, a more specific term than this would be actually going deeper into how you could do this.

These are all terms that get search volume. This is the next more specific term 401k gold rollover. That’s gotta work right? That’s gotta work how can you get more specific than that, what even is a 401 K gold roller? Over I had no idea when I was marketing this company what the heck of 401 K was or what the heck or rollover was I was 24 at the time, but what I learned was that 401K’s are retirement accounts right I’m 24.

How the heck am I supposed to know that term and rollovers are a specific way that you move money from a retirement account into another asset class such as gold. Now, this is a person looking for such a specific term. They they have a 401 K they’re looking to move it into gold through a rollover how can you get more specific to buyers than that? Let’s go deeper Rosland capital that’s got to be the term. I don’t even know what that is. Rosland capital is a competitor gold company to the one that I was marketing. The only people that would be searching for Rosland capital are people that are not only interested in a 401 K gold rollover but they’d seen an ad for Rosland capital and they may be interested in working with the company. Therefore, this is somebody who’s already interested in doing a 401k rollover. They believe they have a company they want to work with they’re just looking for a little more information.

Surely this has to be the term but I went one level deeper and this was where the big money was and this is how I was created to create an income stream for myself that lasted for years . This was the money term Rosland capital review, somebody who was searching for a review of Rosland capital was interested in being a customer of the company but not necessarily totally convinced that Rosland capital was the right company to conduct their gold 401k rollover. Now that left the door wide open for somebody like me to recommend the company that I was an affiliate for simply by saying that Rosland capital it’s a company but it’s not necessarily the best company out there.

That seed of doubt that somebody already had in their mind by searching for this word review that little seed of doubt that the prospect for this company had, I was able to use to do well maybe I was slightly biased but rating ratings and reviews of this company and the other gold companies in the industry, a nd end up recommending the company I worked for which paid me to get me more customers for them and which I believe is the best gold company around. Now I created a consistent income stream by putting up reviews of other gold companies in this space and I’m going to show you an example of one of an example of the type of blog that I put up to make this sort of money.

Now I don’t work in this space anymore but this is an example to illustrate to you what is possible and how you can go about things. So here I am in on a review site it’s called gold IRA handbook and I put up site something similar to this. This was on a WordPress site I was I was hosting it through a Bluehost I believe and only pain you know it only costs a few bucks per month to host a website.

It’s very cheap to host a website doesn’t cost a lot of money. Now, what I did was I simply wrote a review and I ranked for the term Rosland capital review. Now, if you go down here you’ll see that it’s you know I would do something similar to this. What does Rosland Capital offer. Who is Rosland capital? Things I like about Rosland capital, things I don’t like about Rosland capital and this is where you start to capitalize on the the things that make it an imperfect company. Okay, this is where your get a chance to expand on that seed of doubt within that customers mind to recommend whatever you are an affiliate for. Now, again my intention for this was to get more customers for the company I’m working for to afford myself a living. Some of you may not be okay with this sort of marketing but it is perfectly legal it is perfectly sound by all laws and it works you may be unsure about this marketing because you can see its effectiveness but I hope nobody here doubts the effectiveness of the marketing I’m doing in creating customers and in creating massive amounts of wealth for marketers.

Now, here we go and you know I put the reviews I put their ratings and all that stuff. Okay? Ripoff reports the more information you compile the more you’re helping the world be more transparent actually, so by compiling information with reviews like this you are not only helping the customer but you’re helping yourself. Now, I did the same thing that this affiliate does which I recommended a gold company at the end and the company I was working with was regal assets right there and by doing this it may seem like a crazy amount of work it may seem like it’s a lot of work to go to to make money but this is just a blog post this is this is only about 250 or maybe 500 words to write which takes about 30 minutes to write and you said it you forget it and you can rank for it.

And if you go after targeted keywords like this, you’ll have a much easier time ranking than if you were going after terms such as gold investment. And that’s how I made money by putting my affiliate link down here and getting people who went through my affiliate link invested millions upon millions upon millions of dollars every year with the company I was recommending and it made me a lot of money. Now, let me know in the comments if this was helpful . If this was on fire if you learned something just type in “boom” in the comments or type it “on fire” in the comments if you learn something new from these examples and from seeing examples on my computer of actual affiliate marketing websites of actual affiliate marketing tactics that can make you massive amounts of money.

How To Make Money With Book Blogging? | Booktube Tips | How To Charge For Book Reviews?

Hi there i am manpreet welcome to my you tube channel this is you will find tips and tricks and insider insights into digital marketing.

so before i begin make sure you subscribe to my channel to catch new videos every week and hit that bell button so you get notified every time i post my new video so this has been a highly requested Question on how to charge to book reviews if you’re new here i am digital marketer i have been working for five years as a digital marketing professional and also i do you tubing and blogging i have my own channel about book this is were this question comes from on .

how to charge for book reviews before i begin there are 5 things you need to know about book blogging landscape especially in a country like india number 1 charging from book reviews is round upon you will need lots of people who really do not thing you should be charging for doing book reviewer and you will meet a lot of these opinion needed people who would through a lot of hate at you.

and who would make you feel bad about charging number 2 thing is author is in publisher’s both look for free marketing in most of them are still not ready to pay you for promoting in there products they want you the promoting product to your audience but they would not want to pay you for that number 3 there are plenty of free options these author then publishers have which is why did do not like the pay the people who do ask for money and this could because of the number 4 point which is that there believes in digital marketing is just building up.

There are always been these traditional marketer scope promoting there books in a traditional manner and now that digital marketing has come up they are slowly warming up to the idea and they are not doing it as fastest other industries are doing it so its very slow in the book industry and lastly on charging for book reviews.

The community itself is divided a lot of book blogger would go against you because you charged for book reviews it has happen to me it really happen to you.  it is inevitable so i can understand how a lot of people like charging for book reviewers its such a struggle but i have been doing that for over three years now and i have been lucky enough to enjoy the support of my audience as well as get lots of book review request and do a lot of paid book review.

so let me give you 5 tips on how to charge for book review number 1 build your brand say a lot of people have this falls ideas that you have to start charging to book reviews.

On day 1 as a person who just started a blog or you tube channel or bookstagram account what is the value you’re offering to the buyer which is here either the book publisher or the author or the literally agent in the , end charging is a value exchange process.  what i would suggest is to build significant audience before you decide to charge for book reviews if i had to give your number go for at least one thousand subscriber on you tube or 5 thousand followers on your instagram account or at least a thousand page for you per month on your blog before you start charging for book reviews number 2 build the mind set listen to this you will loose lot of project because a lot of people would not want to pay you..

You will loose even more projects because you didn’t like the book that you got and you just have to take it if you want to be in their industry i must have said know to so many projects i said know to the top publishers i really wanted to work with them but they were not ready to pay me so i said no and it hearts up its a point but if you want to build your brand and build your business you have to do this and trust me i saying this my own experience they will come back to you later on and pay you watch you deserve so think long term okay is that free copy worth 200 rupees really worth your time and effort want to be better of spending your time and effort own some other book that could really help you grow your audience and also isn’t loosing a few pennies better then loosing your entire audience because you like to them so really you have to first develop the business mind set will you have to first be honest with your audience about what your about to do be honest with yourself and give really honest reviews because yes it also happens that people that paid for book review than they give out for all positive reviews just because they got paid for it so do you not want to be that person if you want to be in the gave for the long term and you also want to be transparent a lot of book reviewers still charge i know the charge from the industry but they divert tell you to the reviewers on you tube itself you can give disclaimer you can put it disclaimer paid for promotion and you can said in the video and you can putting in the description and instagram also use hashtag like hashtag ads, hashtag sponsored to tell you reviewers that this was a paid collaboration but the lot of people don’t do that and indian there are no rules about it ] so if you do that in brtain in europe or even in US you will be doing something illegal but right now in india there are not so slot of people a lot of influencer misusing there influence and nor being transparent who they reviewers and i would say that you know it depends on you…you wanna do this short term go ahead and do not tell them and you’re doing paid reviews and you wanna do this for long term you want dare support show them how honest and transparent you’re with them and also while you’re building this mindset please get ready for the aim because you’ll get the lot of hate and lot of countermanding and peternising comment about how dare you charge how dare you even ask for this amount of money or you’re not genuine because you’re charging and you just have to take this comment and ignore them so ll in all this business mindset is really important for you stay strong on this transparent number 3 do proper disclosure like i said if you would not do proper disclosure you will loose the trust of your audience on some days so do not put you are self into that track number 4 now a of view my thing manpreet i do wanna charge i didn’t someway i understand that i should charge but but still why should you charge your time is a very important has it when you’re reviewing a book you first read it and you’re spending hours of your time on that book and then you also spend a lot of time in building your brand and you are for payment for that time how much should i charge see the rates are anywhere between rupees one thousand and rupees thirty thousand in india and some people charged even more so depends on your audience what rate do wanna charge it depends on you so for me i deciding my rate buy the children how much my audiences and how much my time is work and what makes me feel that is fine what makes me feel that i am offering good value to the buyer and also i am being paid for my work and honestly you can not come to this price point in a day you have to experiment and you will loose some project doing that do not have that small thinking and trust for the pennies be a need for the big gain and let your self be mature enough do something so that you can gain bigger things and you’re charging i would say draw a contract because its very important to have a contract if you do not want to deal with difficult situation later on in your contract you should also mention that you will give a very honestly back you will not change your review you will not change your ratings and there his no grantee that you will give it can be positive review it can be negative if you will gave exactly what you want to say and also my personal would be keep the amount not refundable and try to get advance payment as much as possible otherwise work with a brand that should really know and that number 5 tip or rather a question i had from one of you guys was that should you charge non famous authors you are charging because you’re time is work something you’re charging because you’re putting in the lot of into this book review it and put it out there and associated with the your brand do this non famous author have the special magically ability to with you back that time and the worth of the time if they have it do not charge them if they you do not have it charge them both famous and non famous authors for equals important for marketing and non famous authors read it more them famous authors so i would why would you not charge them so i personally may review book for which the author doesn’t need by promotion there is the book which is already a best seller they don’t need my promotion why would they payment they people who need the promotion they payment so its just so obvious and hope you get my point and understand that when you’re book blogging there are many other things you can do work apart from this charging for book reviews you can do sponsored post you can do theme videos and you can theme reading blogs there are so many other ideas you can experiment with just do not limit yourself with the book review part really this video helps you out in some way and helps you real out the confusion if you still have some question please comment down below with the question then i’ll happy to reply for them if you have questions about how to video brand and how to start your booktube channel and i would be happy to help you out with that is well if ask me comments down below and yes keep in mind that is all about being transparent being honest to our viewers being strong enough to too what to have said video and yes that it is today’s video this is manpreet signing off i’ll be back to with another video very soon

Using Windows Firewall – CompTIA A+ 220-802: 1.4

The types of firewalls that we use these days are called stateful firewalls. That means the firewall is smart enough to understand exactly the conversations that might be in place and are communicating through the firewall. That way if somebody tries to send their own traffic through and it’s not part of an existing conversation, the firewall will simply drop that traffic.

And we can see this demonstrated here where we might have a client that is communicating out to a web server. And of course once you communicate out to the web server, the web server will send information back to the client. And as this is passing through the firewall, it recognizes exactly the web server you’re talking to, so that it allows the conversation back from the web server automatically.

And because this is a stateful firewall, if there was someone out there, a ne’er do well, who wanted to also send traffic into your system, once it hit the firewall, the firewall would recognize that this isn’t part of an existing conversation.

It’s not allowed by this particular firewall configuration. So we’re simply going to drop it and not allow that traffic to go back to the client workstation, thereby protecting everything that might be in that device. The stateful protection is built into the Windows operating system through the Windows Firewall. You’ll find the Windows Firewall right in your Control Panel. There’s an option for Windows Firewall.

There are a number of different capabilities for Windows Firewall, depending on what version of Windows you’re using. If you’re using some of the latest versions of Windows Vista and Windows 7, you’ll even have options for advanced security.

There is an Advanced Settings option inside of it, so that you can add even additional security to your existing Windows Firewall. The basic Windows Firewall allows you to set some fundamental security rules that allow certain applications to communicate in or communicate out to your computer. This is all based on the applications. One benefit of having the firewall right in the operating system is it knows exactly what programs you’re running. So you don’t have to put in a lot of detailed information.

Your computer already knows what apps you’re using. You don’t have to worry about any type of scope with these basic fundamental rules. You’re either allowing all traffic or no traffic at all. You also don’t have to configure any advanced connectivity options like IP addresses or port numbers. You simply decide in this view what applications you would like to be able to communicate in or out and you decide where that application traffic needs to go.

You’ll find the Windows Firewall under your Start menu in the Control Panel. And if I scroll down a bit, you will see the Windows Firewall. This firewall setting allows you to configure different options on the left side. And here’s the main view. You can see that you have different settings for the firewall to protect against home or work networks. And that’s different when you’re connecting to public networks. That way you can configure different settings when you’re in the office.

And as soon as you leave and go to a coffee shop or an open Wi-Fi access in a hotel, you will have a completely different security posture for that particular environment. You have a lot of different options available to you. The basic functionality can be accessed right here at the top, where we would allow a program or a feature through the Windows Firewall. And this is the basic settings where I can choose exactly what I would like to modify here. In this case, you can choose the application you would like to allow.

In this case, I’m allowing a home or work on my private network or a public network. And if you add other types of networks, those will also be listed in here as well. You can choose any one of these and get details about what this means. And notice that you can’t change anything until you click this icon that asks for additional security. And by clicking that, it make sure that you are the administrator. And if you’re not running as the administrator, it will prompt you for the proper credentials.

And at that point, you’re able to make any changes you’d like to the firewall configurations. Generally, you don’t have to set anything on the firewall. It automatically recognizes the applications that you’ve configured and it automatically is going to protect. And if you ever need to make changes to this, then you’ll be allowing the traffic in because everything by default will be denied. There may be times when you need additional control of your firewall. You might want to set some very, very granular control of inbound traffic, outbound traffic. You can even set up exact rules based on connection information, like IP address and port numbers. This allows you to get some very, very specific rules. You can really customize the capabilities of the Windows Firewall this way, all the way down to the program, the protocols, the port numbers, what happens to the traffic, when you see that type of traffic.

And you can apply those to different network profiles inside of your computer. Let’s look at these advanced options inside of my Windows 7 system. I’m going to go back to the Control Panel. Let’s scroll back down to the Windows Firewall. I’m going to now choose this option on the left side that says Advanced Settings. And by clicking that, you can see that you have a lot more capabilities here. This is that Microsoft Management Console view, where your selection are on the left side, the current view is in the center, and any actions might be on the right side. Notice that this is separated as inbound rules, outbound rules, connection security rules, and monitoring of what’s going through the firewall as well.

And you can see a lot of detail here. We just choose one particular option in here. I can look at the properties of these rules. This one happens to be pre-defined. But look at all the settings, general settings; programs and services; the computers that are allowed for this traffic to come from or go to; protocols and port numbers; the scope, IP address scopes for these; advanced settings that you might want to set; and any user information. That’s a lot of detail. You have a lot of control over what goes in and out of your computer this way. And if you were ever trying to find out information about what you’re doing, you can always go to these monitoring views and begin looking at items that might be in here for any one who’s communicating in and out of the system.

This gives you a way to not only protect your system, but see also exactly the type of communication that might be going on at any particular time. And it’s all done by using those capabilities that are built into your operating system in the Windows Firewall. .

11 Chrome Settings You Should Change Now!

How’s it going everyone, I’m ThioJoe, and today we’re going to take a look at 11 settings in Google Chrome that you should probably change. These may be things you’ll want to disable, or cool stuff that is disabled by default, that you will want to enable.

Now, I’m using version 63 of Chrome, which is actually the current beta version, so if you’re watching this video at a later date, or you’re not using the beta version, things may look a bit different, so don’t be surprised at that.

I think you’ll find these interesting, and also be sure to subscribe for more videos like this, and enable notifications by clicking the bell, or YouTube is not going to show you my new videos even if you do subscribe, because the YouTube algorithm is a steaming dumpster fire.

Anyway, let’s get started. To start off, we have a feature that last I checked is enabled by default that you probably want to disable. So go to settings, click advanced, then under system look for the option called “Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed.” I don’t know about you, but when I close Google chrome, I expect it to actually close, and not have apps keep running in the background I don’t know about. I mean really, what browser apps do I want to keep running, if I’m not even using the browser?

So yea, I’d disable that if I were you and save some system resources. Ok, number two, this one is also in the settings page, but this time under Privacy and Security. Look for the setting that says “Automatically send some system information and page content to Google to help detect dangerous apps and sites”. This one is disabled by default, but me personally, I think it’s worth it to actually enable it.

If you’re very privacy conscious you don’t have to, but there are so many malicious websites out there that if more people enable this setting, it’ll end up benefitting yourself in the future. Plus, it may make it more likely Chrome will detect a new malicious site you go on even if it hasn’t scanned it before. Alright now all the rest of the settings we’re going to go over are actually in a hidden settings menu called the Chrome Flags menu. Getting there is really simple, you just go to the URL bar and type in Chrome://Flags, and hit enter.

It will warn you these are experimental features, so it’s best to not go randomly enabling and disabling features without knowing what they do. Again this menu might have a different design based on your version of chrome, but the functionality is the same. So let’s move on. So for number 3, do a search for a setting called “Show Saved Copy Button”. You can either search for it at the top, or hit Control + F and type it in there. What this does, is will allow you to load a cached version of a website, if that website either fails to load, or you are currently offline. So to enable it, go to the dropdown and select “primary.

That way, you can at least look at a previous version of the website even if it’s not live, which might still be helpful. With this enabled, on the failed to load page, you’ll see a button to load the saved copy. If you’re wondering what the secondary option means, it just changes whether the Load copy button is on the left or right, so it doesn’t really matter. Next number 4, this one is really great, it’s called “Parallel Downloading”. So search for that one and turn it to enabled. This will let chrome use multiple download threads to speed up the downloading of a file. This means if a website has a limit for how fast you can download a file, chrome can basically download multiple parts of that file in parallel, so you can cut the download speed to a fraction. There’s not really much documentation on this feature so I’m not sure how well it works, and if it does it every time, but I don’t see a reason to not enable it unless you start having issues or something.

By the way, there are extensions that can do this as well, I’m not going to get into those because it’s beyond the scope of this video, but you can look those up. Hopefully this feature will make those obsolete and just work as well without any extensions. Moving on, for number 5, look for a setting called “Smooth Scrolling”, which is on be default. This is a personal preference, but I really hate smooth scrolling so I disabled it. It just changes the way it feels to scroll on a page, and makes it seem a lot slower and sluggish. You can turn it off and on to compare for yourself, but I find when smooth scrolling is disabled, scrolling with the mousewheel just feels so much more responsive and instant, whereas there seems to be a bit of a delay otherwise. That’s because to smooth out the scroll movement, it has to slowly build up speed, then slow down to a halt. It’s not something you would really notice until you compare it for yourself, so try it out and see. Number 6, this one is really cool, look for the setting called “New omnibox answers in suggest types” and enable that.

This makes it so you can type questions and other queries into the omnibox or URL bar, and it can offer answers right there. For example, if I type in “2nd president of the USA”, it will give me the answer John Adams right in the auto-complete dropdown, instead of having to do a search for it. The only problem is, it actually really sucks at working half the time, and you can type something in one time, and it will answer, and if you type it in again two seconds later, it won’t. So it’s definitely hit or miss, but I guess not bad to have enabled anyway, and you can always just hit enter to do a google search which will show you the same information.

Ok number 7, I really like this one, it also has to do with the omnibox. It’s a setting called “Omnibox UI Show Suggestion Favicons”, that you can enable. What this does, is when you type something into the URL bar, and it lists the suggestions, it will now show the favicon, or the site icon next to each result. So this is really great if you’re searching for a website you visited previously, and the results are from a bunch of different sites, you can more quickly identify results from the site you’re looking for by the icon.

Plus I think it just looks nicer, because before it would just show little icons that didn’t mean anything, and it was sometimes hard to sift through the results. This is definitely one of my favorites I’d say. Number 8, this one is something you may or may not want to enable, called “Automatic tab discarding”. What this will do, is if you have a lot of chrome tabs open, and your computer starts to run low on memory, it will stop running some tabs you haven’t been using.

This way, those tabs are no longer using up resources in the background. And if you do want to go back to it, Chrome will simply reload the page when you click on the tab again. The only downside I can see is if you have tabs running in the background that are actually doing something, I don’t know, like a game or something, you don’t want that to close, because if you refresh it will mess things up. So you can decide youreslf whether to enable this, based on if your computer runs out of memory a lot, or if you use a ton of tabs, and what you usually have running in those tabs. Onto number 9, this is seriously one of my favorite features that as far as I know is not enabled by default for some reason. It’s called “Tab audio muting UI control”, and makes it really easy to mute annoying tabs that are playing sounds. When something is playing sound in a tab, chrome by default will tell you which tab it is using a little speaker icon.

To mute that tab, you can normally right click it and hit “mute tab”. But if you enable this feature, you can mute the tab simply by clicking on the little speaker icon. Sure, it only saves you one click, but it’s so simple that it’s a no brainer. Alright coming near the end, number 10 is called “Fast tab/window close”. This is another one I like to have enabled.

Normally when you go to close a tab, Chrome will stop any javascript applets running or anything else, and once that’s all stopped, will close the tab. But sometimes that might take a second, which will seem like a delay when you’re closing tabs, and can get annoying if you have to close a bunch of tabs at once. With this, according to the limited documentation, Chrome will immediately close the tab visually, then shut down anything running from that tab in the background. I like this because if I close a tab, I want it to just disappear because it’s taking up space, I don’t care if Chrome has to take an extra second for it to close it in the background. So this is nice. And finally number 11, this feature is really amazing to enable, called “Scroll Anchoring”. Now it does technically work on desktop I guess, but if you’re on Android, you can also enable this, and that’s where it really shines. Basically, scroll anchoring can help prevent the page from jumping whenever you go on a site, and it keeps loading new stuff. For example, how many times have you gone to a site, and you start reading it on your phone, and the STUPID FREAKIN ads start loading, and pushing everything out of the way, SO obnoxious.

When scroll anchoring is working, you won’t actually notice, because it simply stops the page from doing that. But over time I’m sure you’ll start to take note that it happens less and less often. And I guess this does happen on desktop every once in a while too, just less often, but still worth it to keep enabled. So, that’s everything hope you enjoyed it. If you want to keep watching I’ll put some other videos right here you can watch, and on my channel I’ve got a ton of other Chrome related videos you can check out.

Be sure to let me know down in the comments if I missed anything, and if you want to subscribe I make new videos every tuesday thursday saturday. And again consider enabling notifications by clicking that bell. Looking forward to hearing from you guys, so thanks for watching I’ll see you next time, have a good one. .

BEST FIREWALL…. EVER?! // GlassWire Review – Personal Security & Privacy Monitoring

In my book, any app that can provide you with more information about the security of your system is something to use. I haven’t talked about security software much on this channel, mainly because it can be a touchy subject and I don’t wish to rattle any cages, but it’s time that changed. Today we’re going to be taking a look at GlassWire, an incredibly informative firewall software that truly helps you keep an eye on your privacy and security. GlassWire is a tool that gives you tons of information and control over data usage, network connections and firewall. It’s not free, but no good security program is.

I’ll have a special coupon code in the description to help out, if you like. Let’s take a look at the app running on my main Windows 10 workstation. For the main screen, you have a look at 5 things right up front. First you have a graph that shows all the network activity from your machine – both upstream and downstream – sorted by specific type of traffic and the app or service pulling the data. Downstream is blue, upstream is pink. The graph scrolls in real-time with timecodes and scales based on data rate.

You can zoom in or out on the timeline, pause it to inspect specific peaks, and view a history that goes back a long time, depending on which license you buy. The basic license has a 6-month history, the Pro license has a 1 year history, and the Elite license has an unlimited history. We’ll get into the other differences of the licenses later. You can also take screenshots of the graph at any time. It’s pretty neat – you have all the information you could need about what’s transmitting data from your machine. This is great overall – if visualizes your network’s information for you, actually makes it interesting to look at, and gives you more entry points to care about what’s happening on your network. Once you know what’s going on with your network, you’ll wanna make some changes. Head over to the Firewall tab. This shows you currently running apps and services, what host they’re connecting to, the upstream and downstream data rates, and then a preview of the graph. You can turn the firewall on or off or click to block individual apps from having internet access.

You also have the option of making apps ask to connect to external networks or blocking all traffic altogether in their “Lock down mode” – which can be great if you know your system is compromised and need to restrict all network access while you clean it up, something I wish I’d had in years past. I really like this, as it gives me MUCH more information and control than other firewall apps I’ve used, and generally just makes more sense. I’ve never quite understood why making a decent firewall UI is so hard for most apps, but GlassWire has gotten it right. The ability to block individual applications is fantastic for directly controlling what your apps do and for limiting ones that you’re… trying before you buy… yeah. As I dig around in the UI, I did have one complaint about it. When I scale up the window to a more legible size on my UHD display, I can’t resize column width, like with tables and spreadsheets. So at any size but the default, things start to look a little janky.

For a more detailed look at total cumulative data usage, we have the Usage tab. It shows a little chart of how much total data has been used, whether it’s outgoing or incoming and whether it’s external or local. Then it sorts by apps, host locations – which is cool to see for me since some of my higher-usage hosts are actually local boxes on my network – and then traffic type such as Dropbox LanSync, Skype Protocol or normal HTTP. Again, you can sort this a couple ways and view the full history of this information. It’s basically the same info as the Graph tab, but focusing on a different side of things. This can be useful to compare to your ISP’s data usage meters and if you have a data cap it can help keep an eye on your data usage and maybe argue a case if they say you went over your cap when you didn’t.

However keep in mind this is only measuring the machine it’s installed on, not your whole network. The network tab is really neat, as it shows all of the locally connected devices on your network. You can sort by IP address, MAC address, Vendor of the network adapters being used, or when the devices were first seen. You can choose to view by DNS or IP. DNS has the chance to display the network name of the device – for example, my render server is called “CineformBox” for the 10 gigabit connection and shows as “CineformBox dot lan” for the normal gigabit connection.

But some devices only show their IP address. If you choose IP Address then it only shows the IP address. This section is neat to see what you’re connected to locally and try to sniff out suspicious devices, but I have quite a few devices that just show up as “Unknown” – including my printer and wifi security camera – and you can’t do anything with these devices from this software. There’s nothing to click on or ability to change any settings here. It’s still great that it shows the information, though. But when suddenly my main Windows 10 rig decided to treat my network as “Public” instead of “Home” or “Private” and would not even give me the option to change it by normal means, thus cutting off my mounted network shares with my render server and NAS drives, it was frustrating to pull this up and have no control here since Windows 10’s networking options are a steaming pile of shit.

I don’t have any idea of GlassWire’s firewall or restrictions somehow changed my network profile or of Windows 10 is just screwing with me. It could be either. Or both not getting along. I’ve not seen this be a common issue in my research, however. While you’re using GlassWire, it will pop up alerts in the bottom-right-hand corner alerting you when an app accesses the internet for the first time, or information about the application has changed, a change in DNS settings, that kind of thing. The Alerts tab will show you a history of your alerts, sorted by date, apps or type. This is helpful – nothing’s more frustrating than getting a notification from an app when you’re not looking at the screen and then not being able to figure out what it said.

While I love that Windows 8 and 10 introduced integrated notifications, this drives me nuts – I’ll be in another room, hear the notification jingle and then never figure out what Windows wanted to tell me. Same thing with Malwarebytes sometimes, though they’ve gotten better about it. A raw list of alerts is the way to go, IMO, so kudos to GlassWire. This software can do a lot – and it can do any more if you pop open the settings and go to security. Here you can disable alerts or enable a couple really really cool ones that I haven’t seen in other security apps. Firstly, you have a monitor for network device activity. This would get annoying for me, but could work for others. You can enable “While you were away” alerts to group up activity when you’re detected as idle.

You can set a bandwidth cap size and a time period and have GlassWire alert you if the computer has gone over that bandwidth amount (so you’d wanna set it a little lower than your actual cap so you know when you’re getting close). But my favorite is that there’s an alert for when apps or sites access your camera and microphone! This is huge! In my opinion, as the “internet of things” concept starts becoming reality and all of our computers have cameras and microphones all over them, monitoring activity for these devices and general security regarding them goes way too overlooked. While you might get annoyed being told that everything under the sun accesses your camera and microphone, I think it’s REALLY important to have this information available. Here in the settings, you can clear your history, disable startup (but if you do it won’t be monitoring your system until you open GlassWire), change the language and graph skin, and set up server connectivity.

You can install this on multiple boxes and monitor all from one place! This is great for server environments. If you’re wanting to keep an eye on your machine or entire network, GlassWire does a great job. It tracks network activity better than any app I’ve used thus far – even Malwarebytes’ annoying “Website Alerts” – and it has the most intuitive firewall UI I could ask for. It will cost you a little, but it’s reasonably priced, in my opinion, and no good security app is really free. My only main concern is that the program is currently only available for Windows PCs. Their FAQ has a listing of “Do you have a Mac/Android/iPhone version?” with the answer being “Not yet, should we?” and I say YES! 100% YES! I’d also love to see a build for Linux. While there’s already a lot more security tools available for Linux, the intuitive nature of the UI for GlassWire would still be amazing to have, especially for newer users who are still concerned about security.

GlassWire comes in 3 plan tiers, with bulk pricing available for custom quotes. The Basic plan includes 1 PC coverage with 3 remote connections and a 6 month history view. The Pro plan covers 3 PCs and lets you see through 1 year of history, with 10 remote connections possible. And the Elite plan covers 10 PCs with unlimited history view and unlimited remote connections. All of these come with the full range of features. You’ll still need a formal antivirus to keep you safe, too, but this is perfect for monitoring. Link to GlassWire will be in the description below, along with a coupon code just for my viewers. Even if you don’t have the money right now, I definitely recommend putting GlassWire at the TOP of your list if you’re at all concerned about security. .

Windows Firewall with Advanced Security – CompTIA A+ 220-1002 – 1.5

The Windows operating system includes a firewall that can protect you from attacks in this video we’ll look at the windows firewall and some of its advanced features if you hear the term firewall these days you’re really talking about a stateful firewall a stateful firewall is one that understands and remembers this state of traffic that flows through it that way of traffic is outbound the firewall automatically knows to allow that same traffic flow back in bound likewise if someone was to try to send traffic through this firewall without there being an existing state or traffic flow in place the firewall will automatically block that traffic here is an example of a stateful firewall we have a client that will be communicating through a firewall and communicating to a web server the firewall is already configured to allow this outbound traffic through the firewall into the web server the web server is going to send the response to this request back to the client since there was a previous session already created between the client and the web server the firewall automatically understood that State and allowed that traffic to continue through to the client if someone else out on the Internet was to send traffic to the client through that firewall but there was no existing state and no existing rule that would allow that traffic that traffic would be stopped by the firewall and would never make it to the client on the inside the windows firewall in Windows 7 and Windows 8 has been renamed in Windows 10 to the Windows Defender firewall but it is effectively the same application with the same capabilities the fire wall itself is integrated into the operating system itself and you’ll find the configuration settings in the control panel under Windows Firewall or Windows Defender firewall there are also options within the firewall that would allow you additional configuration settings under the Advanced Settings option you’ll find that listed on the Left sidebar the basic functionality of the Windows Firewall allows applications to send and receive traffic this is especially useful if the application itself is expecting any inbound traffic coming from the network an application such as a voice over IP commune occations tool may require that you allow inbound traffic to your computer as well as outbound traffic one way to allow or disallow this traffic is through the allowed apps configuration within Windows Firewall the installed applications are listed in this list of allowed apps and features and you can allow or disallow communication for that app based on the network profile that’s in use the only control you have at this level is to enable all traffic for a particular app or none of the traffic for a particular app you’re not able to configure any details for instance you’re not able to set a scope for the traffic which means it would be both inbound and outbound traffic you can’t configure things like connectivity security rules that would tell Windows to only send this traffic over a secure IPSec tunnel you can of course configure those options in the advanced security section but if all you’re looking to do is enable or disable a particular application this is a very easy way to do that I’m currently on a guest or public network profile and Windows Defender firewall is telling me that incoming connections will all be blocked to applications that are not on the list of allowed apps I can change those allowed apps by clicking allow an app or feature through the Windows Defender firewall and then it will list out all of the different applications that I’ve installed if you want to disable capabilities for example let’s say we scroll down to Skype and if we want to enable or disable Skype I can disable it by unchecking those marks for the private and the public profiles and now no inbound traffic will be able to communicate to the Skype application if you want detailed control of all traffic inbound or outbound from your computer you’ll want to use the Windows Firewall with advanced security features this allows you to configure inbound rules outbound rules and connection security rules for encryption you also have the ability to configure granular rules where you can specify the program the port number any predefined services and custom variables as well these custom variables include options such as protocol import information the scope of the particular rule any actions you would like to have and the profile that will be included for this rule you can find the advanced features under the advanced settings option inside of the firewall and this will bring up another window that allows you to configure inbound rules outbound rules connection security rules and monitoring information for example here are the inbound rules on this computer make this a little larger and you can see all of these different inbound rules that are configured and you’re able to make configuration changes to any of these by simply clicking on them and making changes to the rule itself this is especially useful if you’d like to enable or disable part of an application communication or you want to have more control over exactly what traffic is allowed inbound or outbound from your computer you
